Training Summary:
This training will provide mental health professionals with a comprehensive overview of human sexuality, with a focus on topics relating to sexual anatomy and physiology, sexual lifespan development, sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual disorders and dysfunction, STI’s, and other issues relating to sexuality which may come up in a clinical setting. This training will discuss appropriate assessment and treatment methods and interventions through a biological, psychological and sociocultural lens.
Class Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Define sexuality as it applies to development across one’s lifespan from childhood, through adolescence, into adulthood.
2. Understand the physiological and phycological changes that occur during puberty as they relate to sexual development.
3. Describe how sexuality, gender, culture, media and socialization impact sexuality.
4. Identify, assess, diagnose and treat common clinical sexual issues.
5. Identify and distinguish common STI’s, as well as understanding how to best support clients who are navigating a positive diagnosis.
6. Define different labels clients may identify with concerning their sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?
· Participants will feel more competent in discussing sexuality with clients through learning to define and identify sexual labels and disorders.
· Attendees of this training will take away the ability to better assess and treat issues concerning sexual development and sexual expression in order to best support clients.
