BBS- Human Sexuality: Assessing, Educating and Intervening with Youth and Their Caretakers to Develop or Regain a Healthy Sense of Sexuality Throughout the Lifespan (2-Day)– 10 CAMFT & RN CE Credits 



Summary

Promoting health and satisfying sexuality starts with attitudes and age-appropriate education. Many system-involved youth have had negative sexual experiences which may impact their sexuality throughout their lifespan. In this course learn to understand, identify and talk about sex and sexuality with youth, caregivers, family members and school staff. Topics to be covered include: anatomy and physiology, sexual identity, sexual diversity, cultural considerations, STDs, birth control, menstruation, sexual functioning, sexual dysfunctions and disorders, sexual consent, healthy relationships, sexual dysfunction and sex therapy, This course meets the pre-licensure requirements for Human Sexuality, 10 hours, for individuals applying for a license with the Board of Behavioral Sciences. 

Objectives Day 1:

Participants will be able to

  • 1. Educate clients about the healthy diversity of sexuality and gender identity; 

  • 2. Define three sexual terms that they did not know before taking the class; 

  • 3. Describe the anatomy and physiology of sexual functioning; 

  • 4. List at least three elements of a healthy relationships; 

  • 5. Explain at least two aspects of healthy sexual decision making; 

  • 6. Explain how culture may teens choices around engaging in sexual activity. 

 

Objectives Day 2:

Participants will be able to 

  1. 1. Explain five elements of sexual consent. 

  1. 2. Explain how at least 8 types of birth control work and the pros and cons of each. 

  1. 3. Identify the symptoms and treatment methods for at least 4 sexually transmitted infections. 

  1. 4. Differentiate between healthy and unhealthy sexual functioning. 

  1. 5. Perform a sexual functioning assessment. 

  1. 6. Diagnose, address or refer clients who are experiencing sexual dysfunctions. 


How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?  

 

Day 1  

  • -Talk with colleagues and supervisors about what they learned and how to use the information with their clients. 

  • -Discuss with clients the healthy diversity of sexuality. 

  • -Determine which clients might benefit from psychoeducation about some aspect of their sexuality and plan when and how to approach these clients. 

 

Day 2  

  • -Utilize assessment questions to determine if clients are experiencing sexual difficulties. 

  • -Assess for sexual problems that their clients might be experiencing. 

  • -Identify, address or refer clients who are experiencing sexual dysfunctions. 

 

Trainer Bio:

Rachel Michaelsen, LCSW, is a clinical social worker who has worked in HMOs, public agencies, and private practice as both a mental-health provider and a supervisor for over thirty years. She has taught courses in diagnoses, clinical supervision, suicide, HIV, human sexuality, law and ethics, childhood psychopathology, time management, vicarious traumatization and energy psychology at universities, conferences, and mental-health agencies.? She has a private psychotherapy practice and is also the immediate past Chair of the Humanitarian Committee for the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.? 

  

Intended For: Social Work and Mental Health Providers Serving Dependent Youth


 

IMPORTANT 

You must work with dependent (foster & probation) youth in Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, or Monterey County in order to attend our trainings. Trainings are free for those eligible to attend. 

  

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS 

Course meets the qualifications for 10 continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Seneca Family of Agencies is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs. Seneca Family of Agencies maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Provided by Seneca Family of Agencies, Provider #135057.   

We are unable to provide certificates of completion if more than 15 minutes of each course content is missed.
