EQ4 Module 3 & 4-Ensuring Safety in the Community for Staff, Youth and
Families: Community Safety & Interacting with First Responders
Training
Summary:
When
providing services in a new community, there are many key areas to focus on to
increase staff and youth safety. This training will review best
practices for getting to know a new community and identifying
potential risk factors and how to respond thoughtfully to each. We will
also review best practices in transporting clients or families in the community
and how to respond to a crisis while driving.
In the
second segment of the training, the group will focus on interactions with first
responders while caring for youth or families. Participants will explore
reasons key situations such as psychiatric emergencies, interactions with law
enforcement, and medical emergencies, including why a provider might initiate
those services and how to navigate and collaborate with first responders.
Participants will also discuss best practices in following up after contact
with a first responder, including communication, adjusting case plans, or
updating safety plans as appropriate for youth and family needs.
Class
Objectives:
· Participants
will be able to identify 3 keyways to assess for safety in
the community while providing services to youth and families.
· Participants will be able
to identify 3 strategies for transporting youth or families safely.
· Participants will be able
to identify 1 strategy for each of the major types
of emergencies in the community that may require collaborating with
first responders (psychiatric, interactions with law enforcement, medical
emergencies)
How can
participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to
reinforce their learning?
- Participants will be able to analyze their current case load and
create collaborative safety plans unique to each youth in care.
- Participants will advocate on behalf of their youth and families in
care by examining the current processes in place under the lens of seekin
