Class Description:

Training Summary:
This training explores the value of nature-based engagement of youth. This training focuses on how nature-based engagement can support resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy development for youth in out-of-home care. Participants will explore how sensory-based strategies and structured outdoor activities can serve as protective factors, strengthen relationships, and support trauma-informed care. The training also addresses staff roles in preparation, supervision, and risk management to ensure safe and developmentally appropriate experiences. 

The training utilizes handouts, PowerPoint, small group activities and guided imagery to increase staff understanding of the value of being in nature. 
 
 

 

Class Objectives:

  • Identify how nature-based activities support resilience, emotional regulation, and protective factors for youth in out-of-home care 

  • ?Apply sensory-based and relationship-centered strategies to support youth development and trauma-informed practice 

  • ?Demonstrate how to plan, supervise and manage risk during outdoor activities in alignment with staff roles in child welfare settings
