Training Summary:

Supervisors of Youth Professionals are responsible not only for oversight of services to youth and families, but also with supporting the professional development of supervisees to enhance their skills with youth. This course will review assessment tools to better understand supervisees growth areas that may improve outcomes for youth and families (for example, strengthening boundaries, increasing cultural competency, direct communication about safety issues) as well as strategies that supervisors can use to facilitate growth in supervisees.

Class Objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to...?

  • Participants will explore an assessment tool of a growth rubric for their supervisees areas of strength and growth in their work with youth.

  • Participants will discuss strategies for facilitating growth in supervisees with a particular emphasis on areas that will have the highest impact on outcomes for youth and families.

  • Participants will practice responding to challenging supervisory situations and discuss how a failure to navigate these well might impact youth and families.

How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?

  • Participants will be able to utilize a growth rubric to assess each of their supervisees areas of strength and growth in working with families.

  • Participants will demonstrate use of the 3 strategies for facilitating growth in supervisees to improve their work with youth and families.

  • Participants will be able to address challenging supervisory situations as presented in vignettes about working with youth and families.
