Training Summary:

Supervisors have a critical role in ensuring that youth and families receive the best care possible and those new to the role often have a steep learning curve to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure best practices are being followed consistently. This course will support new supervisors in understanding the critical role of supervisor in ensuring high-quality service delivery and the legal and ethical requirements and responsibilities in systems of care for youth and families. We will also review best practices in ensuring that each session reviews each child and family and addresses urgent crisis and critical incidents as well as the importance of having a strong relationship with each youth professional and an understanding of their work with youth and families.  Supervisors will be given an opportunity to assess their own strengths and growth areas to ensure that they are able to fulfill this critical role in ensuring youth and families are receiving the best services.

Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, and practice during the training)

·        Participants will be able to identify the legal and ethical responsibilities of a Youth Service Professional Supervisor in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the youth they serve.

·        Participants will be able to articulate at least 3 key expectations for supervision with new supervisees.

·        Participants will be able to identify 2 key strengths and 2 challenges of their supervision style in order to improve service delivery for youth in care.

How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?

·        Participants will be able to follow the legal and ethical responsibilities of supervisors and will discuss them with youth professionals in order to maintain the safety of youth in care.

·        Participants will be able to articulate at least 3 key expectations they have in supervision to new and current supervisees.

·        Participants will share their growth edges with 3 people after the training and follow their implementation plan to improve their supervision of youth professionals and increase the quality of services to youth and families.
