Training Summary:

In this training, participants will be reviewing risk factors and exposure to trauma that Central Americans, particularly those with origins in the Northern Triangle, experience in their country of origin as well as while residing in the United States. Participants, initially, will review a general introduction to the Latine American population, such as differences between Latinos/Hispanics/Latine. The diversity found throughout Latin America will be highlighted to create a foundation in exploring the trauma and challenges that are specific to Central America. Lastly, participants will identify ways to engage with and support immigrant Central American Latine families that is considered supportive and culturally responsive.

Class Objectives:

1. Review the impact of post migration sociopolitical trauma typically experienced in the Latine community to support assessment and understanding of psychosocial needs for service delivery to address.

2. Identify 5 culturally responsive strategies that honor Latine values, such as familismo, and that serve as protective factors to cultivate resilience during crisis, including navigating the current sociopolitical climate.

3. Review the impact of secondary trauma on service providers and three strategies that can support service providers in managing the trauma that tends to occur when providing services to communities experience sociopolitical collective trauma.
