Summary: Supervisors of
Youth Professionals are responsible not only for oversight of services to youth
and families, but also for supporting the professional development of
supervisees to enhance their skills with youth. This course will review a
variety of best practice assessment tools to better understand supervisees
growth areas, strategies that supervisors can use to facilitate growth in
supervisees, and tips for particular challenges that may come up in the
supervisory relationship, as outlined in Strength-based clinical
supervision: A positive psychology approach to clinical training by Wade
and Jones (2015).
Training
Objectives:
By the end of
the training, participants will be able to...
- Explain the Four Stages of Supervision to utilize the
strategy that best matches their supervisee’s needs (Inception Stage,
Skill Development Stage, Consolidation Stage, Mutuality Stage).
- Define the 4 Key Areas in Adult Learning Theory
(Knowledge, Skills, Motivation, and Environment) for facilitating growth
in supervisees.
- Identify at least 1 strategy to address challenging
supervisory situations and common pitfalls.
Trainer Bio: Nicole Nelson
is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a Masters of Arts degree in
Counseling Psychology and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Cross-Cultural Studies
and Sociology. She has nearly 20 years of experience working with youth and
families in a variety of settings, including residential, school-based, and
community-based programs. She has provided clinical supervision for over 10
years as well as experience as a Program Director, Regional Executive Director,
and now Training Content & Delivery Director at Seneca Family of Agencies.?She has studied adult learning
and professional development strategies to support supervisees and has provided
training and onboarding for hundreds of new supervisors over the last decade.
Nicole’s training style focuses on the application of concepts and trainees
will leave the class with concrete ideas on how to utilize the tools and
concepts presented in real-world contexts with their supervisees to promote
their professional development.
IMPORTANT
You must work with dependent (foster & probation) youth
in Alameda, Contra Costa, or Solano in order to attend our trainings. Trainings
are free for those eligible to attend.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
Course meets the qualifications for 7 continuing
education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the
California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Seneca Family of Agencies is approved
by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor
continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs. Seneca Family of
Agencies maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content.
