Respecting and Supporting Autistic and Neurodiverse System-Involved Youth

Training Summary:

Dive deep into the world of neurodiversity and autism spectrum disorders with this dynamic training opportunity tailored for professionals working with system-involved youth. Through interactive sessions and engaging discussions, participants will uncover the intersection of disability movements, communication challenges, and environmental influences on the well-being of neurodiverse individuals. Armed with practical strategies and a deeper understanding of respectful language and advocacy, attendees will leave empowered to support the holistic needs of the youth they serve.

Class Objectives:

·        Participants will be able to identify four key principles underlying disability movements and language use, demonstrating knowledge acquisition in historical perspectives.

·        Participants will be able to differentiate between "literal communicators" and "abstract communicators, "identifying specific communication styles exhibited by system-involved youth, thereby demonstrating comprehension of diverse communication modalities.

·        Participants will practice utilizing a range of techniques to support the emotional well-being and communication needs of neurodiverse system-involved youth, demonstrating synthesis of learning in practical application.

Transfer of Learning Skills:

·        Participants will practice implementing a range of techniques aimed at nurturing the emotional resilience and communication skills of neurodiverse system-involved youth, fostering greater engagement and empowerment within their care.

·        Participants will be encouraged to initiate dialogue with colleagues and clients about the importance of using respectful language when discussing disabilities, fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment within their professional circles.

·        Participants will acquire educational resources and tools to further explore and deepen their understanding of neurodiversity and autism spectrum disorders, empowering them to stay informed and adaptable in their approach to supporting system-involved youth.
