Training Summary:
This
training explores the purpose of actively working with youth in care to help
them meet preferred behaviors. The training highlights four things to think
about in any given situation before choosing how to support youth: your
personal state, the desired outcome, the situation and environment, and which
approach to use. Didactic presentation, group discussion, art and visualization
exercises are utilized.
Class Objectives:

Staff will
learn about the crisis escalation curve as well as how to assess the safety of
the environment when responding to crisis situations.

Staff will
practice utilizing different types of engagement strategies to respond to youth
crisis situations.

Staff will
discuss example scenarios of crisis situations and use critical thinking skills
to generate appropriate responses.
How can
participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to
reinforce their learning?

Staff will
debrief crisis situations after the fact to attempt to better understand how
the four components of crisis were displayed and to engage in treatment
planning for the youth in their care.

Staff will
practice engaging different styles of communication with youth and co-workers
and ask for feedback.
·
Staff will
continue to practice awareness of what happens internally in crisis situations
and how to examine the safety of the environment.
