Class Description:

Training Summary:

Youth Professionals who provide services in the community or in home-based settings have a wide range of safety issues to consider in order to ensure the safety of children, families, and themselves. This course will review key concepts and give participants time to apply these ideas to real-world situations. Throughout the training, there will be a discussion of how bias can impact judgements about safety, responses to safety, and personal comfort levels of safety. Participants will receive strategies to mitigate this bias and reactions.

In this training, the group will focus on challenges maintaining safety for yourself, clients, and families in the community during the height of a crisis (aggressive behavior, high-risk events, self-harming behaviors, etc.). Strategies and safety tips will be provided to utilize before going into the community, once a situation begins to escalate, and follow-up steps after safety issues.

Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, practice, etc during the training)

    • 1. Participants will be able to identify strategies during the escalation phase of a crisis, including crisis communication techniques
