Training Summary:
System-involved
youth are often in fight or flight states and unable to think clearly about
decisions regarding behaviors and activities including engaging in sex. In this
training, we will talk about how to talk to system-involved youth of different
ages and cognitive abilities about sex. Topics will include sexual decision
making; consent; healthy relationships; youth’s sexual rights; what to do, when
to do it, where to do it and with whom; pregnancy and disease prevention; and unacceptable
sexual behaviors.
Class Objectives:
Participants
will be able to:

Determine which
youth would benefit from information about sex, safe sex, consent, and their
rights
•
Discuss with youth
with different cognitive abilities about how to determine their readiness to
have sex
•
Develop a plan
for how to talk to system-involved youth in crisis about sex, safe sex and
consent based on their age and cognitive abilities
•
Describe
different kinds of sex
•
Describe
unacceptable sexual behaviors
•
Explain how to
prevent pregnancy and disease
•
Explain to youth
their sexual rights
