Class Description:

Training Summary:


In this training participants will discuss why should those who work with youth in out of placement, assess who is most at risk for attempting or completing suicide. They also will be able to distinguish the differences between non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal rehearsals.


Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, and practice during the training)


  • Participants will identify what objects, substances and actions are commonly used in suicide attempts.
  • Participants will examine factors that drive people to choose suicide.
  • Participants will practice how to respond when suicide risk is present.


How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?

  • Participants will speak with a colleague about assessing for suicide risk within 1 week of completing training and apply the 5 Step suicide evaluation techniques to most effectively assess youth in care.
Participants will share with their supervisor at least 2 support strategies that they took away to use with suicidal youth.
