HIV/AIDS:
Understanding Risk, Prevention, Symptoms, Interventions and Resources in Work
with System Involved Youth and Families- 7 CE Credits
According to the CDC, in 2018 21% of new HIV diagnoses in
the US and dependent areas were among youth. In order to help prevent HIV
infection in system involved youth, providers need to understand risk factors,
prevention strategies and how to teach this information to their clients.
Providers need to understand the psychosocial issues and how to support HIV+
system involved youth and their families. In this class we will focus on
prevention, signs and symptoms, testing, stages of infection, legal issues, social
and cultural issues, preparing youth for loss of a parent from HIV, mental
health issues and resources. This course meets the pre-licensure requirements
for HIV/AIDS 7 hours, for individuals applying for a license with the Board of
Behavioral Sciences.
Course Objectives:
Objective
1: List at least 3 strategies for preventing HIV infection
Objective 2:
Identify at least 4 signs or symptoms of HIV infection
Objective 3:
Describe the 3 stages of HIV infection
Objective 4:
Explain when and where to get HIV testing
Objective 5:
Elaborate on 2 social and 2 cultural issues related to HIV infection
Objective 6:
Describe at least one way to prepare youth for the loss of a parent to HIV
Objective 7:
Identify at least 3 mental health issues related to having or knowing someone
with HIV
Objective 8:
Identify 3 examples of where to find and utilize HIV resources
Trainer Bio:
Rachel
Michaelsen, LCSW, is a
clinical social worker who has worked in HMOs, public agencies, and private
practice as both a mental-health provider and a supervisor for more than
twenty-five years. She has taught courses in Human Sexuality, diagnoses,
clinical supervision, law and ethics, childhood psychopathology, vicarious
traumatization and energy psychology at universities, conferences, and
mental-health agencies
IMPORTANT
You must work with dependent
(foster& probation) youth in Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, or Monterey
County in order to attend our trainings. Trainings are free for those eligible
to attend.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
Course meets the qualifications
for 7 continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or
LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Seneca Family
of Agencies is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family
Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or
LEPs.Seneca Family of Agencies maintains responsibility for this program/course
