Training Summary: Provide a couple sentences summary (content themes/training techniques, and how this training is relevant to working with children who live in out of home care)

 

Given the disproportionate number of youth of color in the foster care system, it’s

imperative for social service providers to engage in culturally-informed ways. This

training will explore cultural perspectives on trauma, healing, and resiliency. With a

greater cultural understanding of these concepts, providers will be able to increase

their engagement with youth and families in more culturally meaningful ways.

 

Class Objectives: (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, and practice during the training)

 

  • Participants will learn when to implement culturally-informed strategies and how to support youth of color navigate the foster care system and be supported. 
  • Participants will also practice these skills to gain a greater understanding and increase engagements skills that allow providers to communicate in more culturally meaningful ways with youth and families.
  • Participants will increase knowledge and understanding of cultural perspectives on trauma, healing, and resiliency.
