Mandated Reporter Training Free for all service providers in Santa Clara Count

This training will be provided through distance learning. A Zoom link will be emailed to you a day prior to the training.

                                                        

Child Mandated Reporter- 3 CE Credits

Child Mandated Reporter training provides participants with the necessary training to identify and report child maltreatment as required by the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and Federal mandates. The training is intended for individuals that are school personnel, childcare providers, medical professionals, mental and social health professionals, law enforcement, clergy and volunteers working with youth. Many child welfare professionals, regardless of their work environments, will most often encounter a case or situation concerning of child abuse or neglect. California’s specific regulations, policies and protocols for those who are mandated to report suspected child abuse and neglect will be addressed in the training. A wide range of issues pertaining to child abuse/neglect intervention, including identification, assessment, reporting, and case planning will be explored. Therefore, it is critical that staff be informed about the principles and strategies helpful in these areas in order to ethically and accurately meet their legal duty. Information included examples of abuse when a report would be warranted, how to complete a verbal and written report and strategies for supporting students and for their self-care when disclosures of abuse are made. This course will cover an overview of legislation, all categories of child abuse, and protocol for responding to suspected abuse.


Class Objectives:


  1. Acquire an increased understanding of the roles and responsibilities of mandated reporters and the Child Welfare department based on five key topics.

  2. Apply and identify legal and ethical considerations with concerning mandated reporting duties for suspected child abuse and neglect.

  3. Recognize at least four signs of physical and behavioral abuse and neglect and apply the knowledge of reporting requirements including guidelines on how to make a suspected child abuse report when suspected abuse or neglect takes place outside a child day care facility, or within a child day care facility, and to which enforcement agency or agencies a report is required to be made.

  4. Distinguish how implicit bias, cultural factors, and socioeconomic factors can impact child abuse reporting.

  5. Recognize and assess the four types of child abuse: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect.

Kijafa has an educational background in History (BA) and Public Administration (MPA). Her Seneca journey began as a youth and family specialist eight years ago, before moving into wraparound and

permanency in community-based programs. In collaboration with a colleague she helped to launch the Seneca Youth Advisory Board and was promoted into a management position, Community Innovation. In addition, she sought to bridge the needs of direct care staff to the mission, values, academic curriculum as she became a master trainer for the agency. She is a skilled trainer and facilitation grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion for clients and staff in program throughout the agency, a well as provided continued supports for crisis response in community-based settings. She is new emerging agency leader with a non-tradition approach and trajectory, who’s style can

best be described as energetic and eclectic.


 

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

Course meets the qualifications for 3 continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Seneca Family of Agencies is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs.

BREAKS

There will be three 10-minute breaks that do not count toward continuing education credit.

We will be unable to provide attendees with certificates of completion if
